Corporate Social Responsibility
For Beardow Adams, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is about working with our local community and being aware of our impact on society.
Local community We are a founder member of the local Chamber of Commerce and have been involved with them on a number of projects from local supply networks to liaison with local schools.
For many years Beardow Adams has worked with Countec, the education business partnership (EBP) for Milton Keynes, providing two week work experience placements for two or three students a year.
Employees Beardow Adams has a very stable employee base most of whom live in the local area. They have a broad spectrum of ages and experience. The majority of employees are long standing. The flat management structure, encourages employee communication, and all the directors are hands on - involved in the day to day running of the business. Annual performance appraisals allow development of training strategies and sponsorship of employees through study leave, in addition to raising other issues key to maintaining good relations.
Local Sponsorship Beardow Adams supports the MK Wanderers Football Club's Under 15's B team, by providing the team with new home strip. Coached by Michael Wakeman, from our International Technology Centre in Milton Keynes, the U15B team has been playing for MK Wanderers since Autumn 2008, playing in the Milton Keynes & Border Counties league, division 1.
Ethical Trading Ethical trading also plays its part in CSR and we are working on establishing a set of ethical trading principles that emphasise good workplace policies that comply with local and environmental law and regulations, wherever we operate. Beardow Adams’ reputation and brand are based on trust. Bribery and corruption of all kinds undermine trust: they inhibit social and economic development and undermine fair competition. Ethical trading has impact on many facets of our business, for example:
- In all the countries where we operate, we adhere to competition laws which prohibit anti-competitive behaviour such as price-fixing conspiracies.
- Behaviour at work (Implemented through our Contract of Employment).
- Positive work environment.
- Health & Safety at Work.
- The elimination of all forms of forced or compulsory labour and the effective abolition of child labour. (Implemented through supplier selection procedures.)
- Our employees or others working on behalf of us do not engage in bribery or corruption in any form in both the public and private sectors.Employees are forbidden from making, offering or promising to make a payment or transfer anything of value (including the provision of any service, gift or entertainment) to government personnel or other officials for the intention of improperly obtaining or retaining business, or for any other improper purpose or business advantage. We do not permit facilitation payments (payments made to secure or speed up routine legal government actions, such as issuing permits) even if these payments are nominal in amount.
Health and safety Health and safety of all its employees and other persons who may be affected by the Company’s activities and Environmental impact are both key parts of CSR . Click on the links for more information.
