Spine glues

Our adhesive range has been developed to meet the most demanding needs:

  • Strong, durable spines with excellent cover adhesion
  • Run on a wide variety of machine designs and speeds
  • Achieve high page pull strengths and lay flat properties
  • In-line trimming, without smearing the trimming knives

Hot melts are also available for rounding and backing, while others have been developed to exhibit solvent resistance.

Single shot and multishot systems

For very demanding applications where improved page retention and long term book durability is of paramount importance, Beardow Adams has developed hot melt primer systems that are used in combination with the company’s spine glues.

In other cases, tailoring adhesives to the exact requirements of individual customers, Beardow Adams has been successful in replacing multishot systems that use two adhesives with a single hot melt acting as both primer and top coat, yet retaining a similar level of performance.

Low application temperature spine glues

Spine glues capable of being applied at temperatures as low as 125°C give page pull values equal to traditional high performance products, but with the following added benefits:

  • Improved health and safety
  • Elimination of fumes
  • Lower maintenance costs
  • Reduced odour
  • Greater efficiency through improved thermal stability and reduced degradation

Side Glues

Our range of side glues includes products that perform on high speed machines with fast in-line trimming, as well as hot melts with long open times for the slowest machine speeds. In some instances, the adhesive will consolidate further down the line at the trimming operation or during stacking.

The key benefit of the Beardow Adams range of side glues is the ability of the hot melt to be applied precisely and to trim cleanly, yet provide a high level of adhesion to a variety of cover stocks.
